Åpen Dag Speech

This is more or less what i told the 10th graders at "åpen dag". I told them in norwegian, and hopefully they got the hang on it.

Hello
I am a representative for the 2nd graders that has chosen the subject International English, and I will tell you a little bit about what we do, how we do things, and why you should choose this in your second year.
After your first year, you don’t need to learn English any further, but if you still want to, this is the subject to chose. Here in International English we do a variety of things, from reading, to listening, and also play games like the kahoot you just witnessed. We also dramatized for a little bit. On top of that it is required that we use a computer, so it will not be like the subjects you are used to, where you sit and take notes in your book.
We work individually, but also in groups. But the most important thing is the blog, yes guys and gals, the blog! That’s the way we do it here. It’s like this subject’s base. Our teacher has her own blog, and from there she notifies us if there’s homework, or other things for the next lessons. You can always count on her to keep us updated.
If this didn’t convince you, than listen to this: we also watch movies, not every week, but from time to time, we find ourselves watching some kind of movie, which is funny and entertaining, but also educational.
It’s an entertaining subject, and I highly recommend you to chose it.

Thank you for listening.

Task 2 p.178

a) Malin makes use of petitions (5), and influence the authorities + using the social media (2)

b) I don't think this statement is wrong, but it has flaws.  Young people in norway are very occupied with their social network these days, and it takes a lot of their time. But when we become 17 years or older, it is expected that we start to follow what's going on in the rest of the world. And many of us do just that. But we probably don't have it as our top priority, but we do care, we really do.

International English Wednesday Summary

This Wednesday was a «subject day», which means we only had one subject the entire day; International English. From 08:35 - 10:00 we made a presentation about companies, we found all sorts of information about it, then we presented it to the rest of the class. We worked in groups made up of 3. After having a break, we went down to watch a movie, which lasted for 3 hours.
The name of this movie was "The Wolf of Wall Street" It was about "The Recession", and it portrayed a man caught up in it all, how he went from poor, to rich, then suddenly bankrupt, then amazingly wealthy, just to misuse his newfound power (money), and lose it all. It ended with him going to jail, and trying to get random individuals to sell him a pen

It was a fun subject day, and I would like more of these. The movie lasted a bit to long, maybe we could have split it up in parts.

Can Terrorism Ever Be Justified

Terrorism, as the western people know it, is a crime against humanity, a b
ad thing, and something that should never be forgiven, no matter the circumstances!

Terrorism, as we know it, is madness. Killing for no good reason (at least we think so), doing it again and again and again. Violence, terror.. all that non good stuff, which really isn’t needed anyways. It destroys families, rips apart fathers from their sons, and mothers from their daughters. It’s sheer violence against human rights, literally. Why you ask? Because the victims does not have any place to go, they are more or less trapped, like animals, and they can only wait for their death. You are either being cornered or hunted.

When talking about terrorism, there is no choice. It’s live or die. To live means to agree to their terms, for example ISIL’s, which is to eliminate a woman’s right. If ISIL could rule freely without restraints, there would be no freedom against women, they would not be educated, and would more or less be treated as tools. In a nutshell, ISIL does not stand for equality at all. If you were a woman, would you like to be treated like this? I definitely would not!

In the beginning of this essay, I wrote “as the western people know it” when I referred to terrorism. That’s because there are people with a different viewpoint than the majority, which of course would be the doers themselves. They don’t see it as wrong, neither is it “normal”. My guess is that they think of it as a necessity, just like how I find it necessary to discuss with someone when I think their viewpoint is out of place, or just totally wrong. Other people around me might think this is weird, and not understand why I would discuss something so trivial. But for ISIS, it’s not a small matter, their reputation, meaning and existence is at stake, and surely they are doing everything they can to “survive” in this world.

The act of terrorism can be summed up as: “Violence against human rights” Yes, they have their reasons, but the means they use are out of range of what is considered normal. ISIS vs the rest of the world are like to kids. Both of them want something, but when both of them get as the answer, one of them rages, and begins not only with screaming or crying, but beating, using a little bit of violence. ISIS is acts the same way. They want to make a fully Islamic State, with their own viewpoints, like a sect or cult. But the way they go on about it can not be tolerated. This is what we refer to as terrorism.
